Soccer Meeting
1. Go over packet: a. Physical Exam Form – would like physicals to be done by end of June b. Extramural Registration Form c. Interscholastic Eligibility Form d. Consent/Waiver/Carpool Form e. Directions to Practice
2. This is a coed 7th & 8th grade team, but 6th graders are encouraged to practice with the team if they can secure a ride to practice. Rides to practice are given to 7th/8th graders as a priority.
3. Practices will begin in late August and go from approximately 4:15-5:15 PM.Students will be picked up at the practice field by no later than 5:30 PM. They will be on two of the three following days to be determined once transportation is arranged: Mondays, Tuesdays, and/or Thursdays. Later on we will drop to just one day a week (once games begin) – also to be determined this fall. They will be held at Sweet Apple ES’s lower field. If the weather is bad on practice day, call Mr. Conrad at (770)753-4141 Ext. 115 and I will leave a message about whether practice is cancelled or not. Students are required to practice with the team for 80% of practices by Fulton Co. policy, but I will work with students who have other commitments.
4. Games are on Wednesdays & Fridays between Sept. 14th and Oct. 10th – see my website for dates and directions to specific games in the upcoming weeks. All games will be on the road, although 3 will be considered “home games”.
5. Students must bring their own equipment to practice (soccer cleats, shin guards, and appropriate clothing) or they cannot practice. They can bring their own soccer ball if they have one, but make sure you mark your name on it. Students are encouraged to store their items in a duffle bag in my office in the morning before classes begin. Students will be given a special pass allowing them to come get their things and change in the restrooms at school after the initial bell at 3:46 PM. Students should be ready to practice immediately upon arriving at the field, but there are limited changing places at the practice facility, so students should change at FSA. Students need to leave from FSA by 4 PM to get to practice on time, so students should change only their shirt and shorts here at FSA, they can put on shin guards, socks, and shoes in the car on the way there. Students are also strongly suggested to bring their own Gatorade, water, etc. as we may or may not have those available.
6. Students must have passed 5 out of 6 classes the previous semester to be eligible and must also have a currently satisfactory disciplinary record.
7. All students will have 2 jerseys – one home and one away. Students will be responsible for keeping the jerseys in good shape as they are school property.Any jersey not returned in good shape will need to be replaced by the student who wore it that season. Parents will need to provide black shorts for games as well as longer white socks to cover the shin guards.
8. All students must have a physical exam before participating in practices and games, and I have a form that the doctor must fill out. I would prefer that students have paperwork in by the end of school or during the summer, so we can begin practicing sooner in the fall.
9. Transportation will be a key issue for both practices and games. We need as many parents as possible to transport their students to and from all games and practices and be willing to help transport students whose parents are not able to do so.
10. Tryouts – This will only be necessary if we have too many players on the team to be able to transport/give ample playing time to. If needed, we will trim the squad down to 20 or so players, with the remaining students going on our Reserve Team. Those students on the Reserve Team may be called up to fill spots due to disciplinary/academic suspensions, injury, or absence for games. This Reserve Team has been used in years past, so those players will still need to be ready…
11. Soccer team needs: 1.) Parents to provide snacks and/or drinks for practices/games, 2.) Soccer balls, 3.) Small cones for practices.
12. Students will be doing quite a bit of running, so they need to be prepared to get in shape! We will also do drills and scrimmage during practices.
