Even though the tour was designed to correlate with the social studies curriculum, there were also plenty of extra activities so that the trip was both educational and fun. For many students, this was the trip of a lifetime and will be a lasting memory of their middle school days at FSA!
Saturday morning students had an early wake-up call before heading to Fort Pulaski, the last brick fort. After exploring the old prison cells in the fort students loaded up the bus and headed to the Okeefenoke Swamp, where they rode swamp boats past alligators sunning themselves. Some brave students even tasted the tea-brown swamp water, which is said to be very pure.... The day ended in Albany at the Fun Park where students played Laser Tag, rode Go Karts and Bumper Boats and played miniature gold. The final morning began with a somber tour of Andersonville National Park and Civil War POW camp. Students sat in replicas of original Shebangs and saw the Drummer Boy Museum. Finally, we had a final stop in Plains, home of the 39th president, Jimmy Carter. Three hours later we arrived at FSA and happy parents and students were reunited in the parking lot and the chaperones and teachers went home for a well-deserved nap! |
