CARBON FOOTPRINT CALCULATOR:
http://zerofootprint.net/youth/neew April 28 - May 2 was "Air Quality Awareness" Week in Georgia. At Fulton Science Academy, we work to reduce air pollution by: 1) Encouraging car and bus drivers to turn off their engines while waiting in FSA's "No-idling" zones. 2) Encouraging carpooling and bus riding. 3) Posting the Air Quality Data on bulletin board inside the main entrance. During carpool line next week, watch for the student "Surprize Patrol" sponsored by the Clean Air Campaign. They will be recording the number of cars idling during carpool line and "Surprizing" the drivers. Doing Our Share For Cleaner Air This year, FSA is continuing efforts to raise awareness about air quality issues and promote an idle free zone on school grounds. Top 3 reasons your car does not want to idle: 1. Idling pollutes the environment. An idling vehicle emits twice the amount of pollutants and green house gases as a vehicle in motion. 2. Idling is not fuel efficient. An idling vehicle gets zero miles per gallon, so if you are going to be idling for more than 30 seconds, it’s better to turn the car off. 3. Idling poses a threat to our health. Cardiovascular and heart diseases associated with air pollution include lung cancer, asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Thank you for supporting your school’s No Idling Zone and doing your share to clean our air.
