Science Olympiad Lock-in Was Amazing!

so_lockin_92608_2.jpgScience Olympiad students had a great lock-in with events like Write it Do it, Compute This and the Pentathalon. Event coaches came to FSA and went over important issues of the events with students.

The pentathalon is a new event for Science Olympiad students which combines both physical and academic endurance. For example, students assigned to this event work relay style and take 5 quick shots with a basketball, balance a ping pong ball on a plastic spoon without dropping it and race around tables while answering academic questions at five different stations.

Students were energized by this event and will do a great job. Students in the two events, "Write it Do it” and "Compute This" worked together to practice on both events. When one group was writing instructions on how to construct an object, the other group worked on “Compute This”, another new event this year. Students researched their facts on USGS.GOV web site and ironically we discovered that some students did very well in events they're not even assigned to!

Needless to say, students had a great time and closed the evening with a movie just before going to bed. Opps, sorry, their sleeping bags!

Special thanks to our fantastic and dedicated volunteer parent coaches, Mr. Verma, Mrs. Stathos, Mrs. Selvakumar, Mrs. Dickerson and Mrs. Walsh. And to our teachers Mr. Turan, Mr. Akgul, Mr. Oduk, Mr. and Mrs. Ekicikol and Mrs. Ozdemir.
